Yesterday we had a special team-building session with our sister school Great Lakes Institute of Technology! And no, these aren't our new uniforms, we took part in an affirmation excercise, writing positive things that we value about our coworkers.

We did this to remember to try to be our best selves and focus on the good, even when it's difficult. Because when we do that, we're able to then give our best to our students. And that's what it's all about!

Fun Fact: TONI&GUY co-founder Guy Mascolo, along with his friend David Montague composed the songs for the band Five Day Week Straw People. While the group only released one full-length album in 1968, it's widely considered to be one of the stronger records of its genre, earning a spot on Record Collector Magazine’s 100 Greatest Psychedelic Records. Mascolo himself said the record "casually set out the philosophy and importance of enjoying one's work." 

Even today, the vinyl reissue is readily available to order online and in record stores!

So far, 16 different employers from around the region have signed up to be on hand answering questions, building connections, and looking for new people to join their teams!

Walking away with four Academy Awards, including the top prize for BEST MAKEUP AND HAIRSTYLING last night was Poor Things, from Searchlight Pictures. In addition to Emma Stone winning her second acting statuette, the dark, absurdist, and oftentimes surreal film by director Yorgos Lanthimos virtually swept the stylistic side of the awards. As you can tell from this poster by designer Vasilis Marmatakis, their take was a bit different to say the least, like in scenes where Stone wore nearly four feet of hair extensions. From what you saw, did the film deserve it? Or did another nominee get snubbed? And have you ever thought about doing hair and makeup for film or television?

Today, our Veterinary Assistant students made their regular trip to the Erie Humane Society for hands-on learning and skills practice! They draw blood from cats and test them for FeLV/FIV, and also draw blood from dogs to test them for Lyme Disease and Heartworm Disease. 

AND just in case you were wondering, both the cats and the dog in these photos are available for adoption!

On Wednesday, we held our Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony. It was, as always, a wonderful experience shared amongst family and friends. With awards, speeches, poems, and the special lamp-lighting ritual - one passed down from the days of Florence Nightingale - it's a celebratory evening to honor our exiting cohort. This group was a truly unique one, bursting with personality, dedication, and the compassion for caring that's needed to excel in their chosen profession. A SOUP-ER DAY: Today we had our Chili & Soup Cook-off, and it was a blast! 

Eight members of our faculty and staff brought in entries, including a Dill Pickle Soup and a Cheeseburger Soup! While it certainly wasn't chilly in our student lounge thanks to all the crock pots and soup warmers, it was certainly tasty. We all voted on our favorite, and the winner was ... NICOLE! Our Surgical Technologist Program Director went home with the Golden Ladle Award. Congratulations to her, and a huge thanks to everyone who cooked, served, and participated. Every soup and chili received more than one vote, so every one of them was someone's favorite!
